Our lyocell spandex single jersey fabric​ is built for garments that need to stay cool against the skin while moving with the body. Knitted at 170–180 gsm and finished 175 cm wide, it blends 94% Sateri™ lyocell with 6% spandex to deliver a true midweight single jersey knit: fluid drape, four-way stretch, and a smooth surface that never feels heavy.

Cooling starts at the fibre. Lyocell absorbs moisture and releases it to the air more efficiently than cotton, so sweat moves off the skin instead of pooling in the cloth. The result is a fabric that reads several degrees cooler on contact and stays comfortable through humid afternoons.

 

The knit structure does the rest. A single jersey construction gives this cloth a fine, open face that lets heat escape, while the smooth lyocell filaments sit lightly on the skin rather than clinging. Add 6% spandex and you get stretch that snaps back with no sagging knees, no stretched-out necklines.

 

Why Sateri Lyocell Is a Lower-Impact Fibre

The lyocell in this fabric starts as wood pulp from sustainably managed plantations — trees that grow on marginal land unsuitable for food crops, without irrigation or pesticides. That alone puts it ahead of conventional cotton, which accounts for a large share of global agricultural pesticide use.

 

What makes lyocell genuinely different is how it’s spun. Instead of the harsh chemical bath used for viscose, lyocell uses a non-toxic solvent in a closed-loop system that recovers and recycles 99.7% of it rather than discharging it. Sateri’s mills run to EU Best Available Techniques (EU-BAT) standards and hold ISO 14001, PEFC chain-of-custody and OEKO-TEX® certification.

 

Independent life-cycle assessments put the numbers in perspective: lyocell fibre uses roughly 20 times less water​ than cotton and needs about four to five times less land​ per tonne. Sateri has also certified its Lyocell under PAS2060 for carbon neutrality following a cradle-to-gate assessment. At end of life, the fibre returns to nature. Lyocell breaks down in soil, freshwater and marine environments, and is compostable under home and industrial conditions.
